How can I get a copy of my medical records?

Return to FAQ Videos

Transcript:

Generally to get a copy of your medical record you can call up the provider or hospital or nursing home and they will have to give you your medical record within 30 days. If you request it on CD they’re only supposed to charge you $10. If you request it in another form or fashion, the fee is supposed to not exceed $200. As a convenience we have provided a link to the statutes which allow for you to order the medical records which the doctors, nursing homes, and hospitals have to honor. Generally we prefer for clients to get their own medical records because as soon as they get a letter from us they know they’re about to get sued and sometimes records change. I did do a nationwide seminar on this for attorneys a couple years ago explaining why it’s preferable for clients to get their own records.
